A-Symmetry/ Off Balence

Artist: Shinichi Maruyama
If you cut this photo in half each side would be different and not match symmetrically.

Focusing on the Background

Artist: Joshua Lutz
In this piece it may be hard to tell but, the foreground is out of focus because the artist wanted the scene of the background to stand out by it being more in focus.

Symmetry/Balence

Artist: Michael Wolf
As you can see, if this piece were cut in half- both sides would be exactly the same making it symmetrical.

Dominance

Artist: Zoe Strauss
The sign "stay alive" is very dominate in this photo, not just because of its vibrant color but it stands out from the common tree landscape, as if it is boosted with more vividness and hue to stand out more, which attracts the viewers eye.

Documentary

Artist: Werner Bischof
This photo makes me think that there is a story behind it with political, social, or historical subject matter. It seems to have a narration behind it.

Repetition

Artist: Brassai
Repetition of the boats.

Artist: Andreas Gursky
To me I feel this clustered congested shopping market has a sort of functional repetition to it.

Artist: Bill Brandt
These houses create a repetition with their structure being so similar and close.

Focusing on the foreground

Artist: Diane Arbus
The women with the bat is in focus, while everything that lies behind her is a blur. I feel this could also be a Dominance piece as well.

Engaging the edges of the frame

Artist:Estate of André Kertész
Clear diagonal, crops objects off the edges of the frame.
